While the bands name has its origin in the medical system to classify a patients severity of injury with a naca-score ranging from 0 to 6 (0-4 indicating non life-threatening vs. 56 signifying life- threatening conditions with immediate need of medical intervention you can figure out by yourself what naca7 means), the term airport hardcore marks an attempt to depict their stylistic fusion and escape being dubbed either one genre or the other. Furthermore, its a reference to the bands hometown, Schwechat, and its close neighbourhood to Viennas International Airport. Naca7s first outing, the 1999 5-track EP welcome, shows off the bands redeeming qualities (Uraniummusic) in their early state of evolution and received excellent reviews. As a result, naca7 were nominated demo of he month by Metal-Hammer UK in November 2000. Extensive touring accompanying and following the release of the EP earned the band international recognition as well as the reputation of a startling live-act and one of Austrias most promising newcomers. In 2001, guitar player hoochi who had already supported naca7 during their live shows joined the band and thus completed its current line-up. The continued touring made naca7 an indispensable part of the countrys heavy-music scene and largely influenced the ongoing process of writing new material. This way, the largely nu-metal reminiscent sound of 1999s welcome ep grew into a highly explosive distillation of the bands unique merits a matured mixture of stripped down riffage, super-tight drumming and a widespread vocal spectrum ranging from clean melodies to the omnipresent gutteral screaming which thwarts all vocal conformity and adds an almost bitterly ironic undertone to the songs. The most simple and yet applicable description of what makes up the evolutionary step naca7 took in a few years time is that their music now makes audible what music at its best is all about: the joy of acoustic virtuosity for both the musician and the listener. After signing to Universal Publishing Group at the end of the year 2001, naca7 entered the studio in spring 2003. Several Reasons To Die For, their eagerly anticipated first full-length effort, was released on November 17th 2003. The album features 11 tracks, recorded and mixed in a distinctive approach to convey both the vigour and the seemingly effortless technical perfection naca7 are able to obtain on stage. With Several Reasons To Die For, naca7 have not only put out a striking demonstration of their musical progression but also found a way to fuse their tremendous talent as a live band into a carefully balanced yet equally raw and powerful style of production. The album did not only earn excellent reviews within the music press but also came out third when Austrias largest daily newspaper called to vote for the album of the year. In 2004, Naca7 toured Austria and Switzerland with Karen and Incoporated and supported Flyswatter and Tribute To Nothing. Furthermore, a video was shot for the single Dissolved and Naca7 appeared in the Austrian road movie Kerosin for which they also contributed the film music. In October 2005 they released their follow up record Barricades On Fire on A:Cute Music in Austria. |
